Simu Liu Modelled for Stock Photos Before 'Shang-Chi'

The images have been circulating Twitter again and they're pure gold

Simu Liu is kind of a big deal these days, between starring as the first Asian superhero in Marvel's Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and his role on the beloved Canadian sitcom Kim's Convenience prior. But before that, the actor modelled for stock photos — searchable on Getty with terms like "business person," "co-worker" and "cheerful."

"I literally keep seeing it pop up, more so now because people are recognizing them and putting them online," Liu told Kelly Clarkson when he appeared on her show back in May. "I've been all around the world. I've travelled — I've been on like the front of stores, I've hung outside gyms and been on the cover of textbooks. It's been really wild."

Liu himself has postulated whether he might be the "greatest stock photo model of all time," since he does seem to have a knack for simultaneously looking professional and impossibly cheery. The actor has also pointed out the Alanis Morissette-level irony of seeing his face on the cover of an accounting textbook as a former accountant.

Speaking of math, we've calculated two things for certain here: 1) Liu has a lot to be smiling about these days, and 2) his business-casual wardrobe has a little more spandex in it now.

Watch Liu talk about his woman-smiling-with-salad past in a clip from The Kelly Clarkson Show from earlier this year below.

Even though he's a Marvel star now, Liu is still a Toronto kid at heart. He also casually landed a backflip after throwing an MLB first pitch, so he's pretty much good at everything.
