'Sicario' Is Now Becoming a Trilogy

Earlier this year, we learned that producers were already plotting a sequel to Denis Villeneuve's fantastic 2015 film Sicario. Now that the second film has found a director in Stefano Sollima, a third film is in the works.

Speaking with The Independent, Sollima said that the producers are planning yet another movie with the characters from Sicario. "The idea is to make three anthology movies with some of the core actors and [set] in the same world," he said.

The second Sicario movie has been given the title Soldado. According to Sollima, the film will stand on its own.

"It's absolutely a standalone movie — a completely different story with just two of the characters that you met in Sicario," he said. "The reason that I love [Soldado] is because it's not exactly a sequel; it's something you can catch... even if you haven't watched the first one."

Soldado will reportedly centre in on Josh Brolin and Benicio del Toro's characters from Sicario.
