Halo, the long-running Xbox game series wherein a racist 11-year-old spewed insults at you through a headset encrusted with Cheetos grease, is finally becoming a TV show. Following numerous false starts, Showtime has announced plans for 10 episodes based on the series.
The show is being produced as a partnership between Showtime, 343 Industries and Amblin Television. The show simply has the working title Halo, and it will be executive produced and written by Kyle Killen (Awake), who will also serve as showrunner. Rise of the Planet of the Apes director Rupert Wyatt will direct multiple episodes.
"Halo is our most ambitious series ever, and we expect audiences who have been anticipating it for years to be thoroughly rewarded," Showtime CEO David Nevins said in a statement. "In the history of television, there simply has never been enough great science fiction. Kyle Killen's scripts are thrilling, expansive and provocative, Rupert Wyatt is a wonderful, world-building director, and their vision of Halo will enthrall fans of the game while also drawing the uninitiated into a world of complex characters that populate this unique universe."
