Indie singer-songwriter Sharon Van Etten has been dabbling a bit recently in the world of visual media, contributing a song to the Tig Notaro documentary and reworking the Squidbillies theme. She's now embarked on a much big project, however, as she's scored an entire film.
As Film Music Reporter points out, Van Etten has scored the upcoming indie drama Strange Weather, which is set to premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival next month. The film is written and directed by Katherine Dieckmann (Motherhood, Diggers) and features Holly Hunter, Carrie Coon and Kim Coates.
The film's synopsis reads:
A poignant, lyrical drama about a mother (Hunter), who, in an effort to deal with the grief over the death of her son, travels the back roads of the deep south to settle a score. A story of grief and forgiveness, of looking inward to find a way to move forward.
Strange Weather will mark Van Etten's first film scoring project. At this point, however, there's no word if the soundtrack will get a proper release.
Van Etten's last album was 2015's I Don't Want to Let You Down.
