'Scrubs' Actor Sam Lloyd Dead at 56

The actor best known for playing "Ted the Lawyer" died after a battle with cancer

Actor Sam Lloyd, best known for playing Ted "the Lawyer" Buckland on Scrubs, has died following a battle with cancer. He was 56.

Lloyd was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour in January 2019, later discovered to be the result of metastatic lung cancer that had also spread to his liver, spine and jaw. A GoFundMe campaign was later started to provide financial support to Lloyd, his wife Vanessa and their then-one-month-old son Weston. 

Since Lloyd's death, numerous co-stars have paid tribute, including Scrubs lead Zach Braff, who wrote on Twitter, "Rest In Peace to one of the funniest actors I've ever had the joy of working with. Sam Lloyd made me crack up and break character every single time we did a scene together. He could not have been a kinder man. I will forever cherish the time I had with you, Sammy."

Sam Lloyd was born in Weston, VT, in 1963, and was the nephew of Back to the Future star Christopher Lloyd. In addition to his recurring role on Scrubs, Sam had made notable appearances on Night CourtSeinfeld3rd Rock from the SunThe West WingDesperate HousewivesCougar Town (reprising his Scrubs role), The Middle and Modern Family, along with roles in films including Flubber and Galaxy Quest.
