Ryuichi Sakamoto Scores Luca Guadagnino's New Short Film 'The Staggering Girl'

Ryuichi Sakamoto is returning to the world of film-scoring with a new short film project from director and longtime collaborator Luca Guadagnino. Their new project is a film titled The Staggering Girl, and the score arrives February 14 via Milan Records/Sony Music Masterworks.

The pair have teamed up in collaboration with Valentino to showcase the fashion house's couture designs in the film.

"When approaching the score for The Staggering Girl, I wanted to incorporate the tactile sound of Valentino's fabrics," Sakamoto said in a statement. "So I asked them to send me some samples and utilizing special sensitive microphones, I experimented 'playing' the fabrics. I love the sound and how it forces one's attention to a sound all around us, yet almost entirely ignored."

The Staggering Girl stars Julianne Moore, as well as Mia Goth, KiKi Layne, Kyle MacLachlan, Marthe Keller and Alba Rohrwacher.

The Staggering Girl will be available to stream on MUBI on February 15.

Guadagnino and Sakamoto have previously worked together on Born to Be Murdered and Call Me By Your Name.
