Ruby Rose has just landed a historic role as Batwoman, making her the first openly gay superhero to ever headline a TV series.

Rose as Batwoman will first be introduced in December, when the CW Network will air a special crossover event featuring its other DC Comics series Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, Black Lightning and Legends of Tomorrow. The standalone Batwoman series will then premiere in the 2019-20 season.

Rose took to her Instagram to share the news, writing, "The Bat is out of the bag and I am beyond thrilled and honored. I'm also an emotional wreck.. because this is a childhood dream. This is something I would have died to have seen on TV when I was a young member of the LGBT community who never felt represented on tv and felt alone and different."

Besides being a recording artist, model and former MTV VJ, Rose has a long list of acting credits, including roles in Orange Is the New Black, Pitch Perfect 3, John Wick: Chapter 2 and The Meg.
