Robert Downey Jr. Shares His First Disneyland Experience — Getting Busted for Smoking Weed

Robert Downey Jr. has let the world in on his very first Disney experience, and let's just say, it's not so family-friendly. As he revealed today, the Iron Man actor says he was arrested for smoking weed during his very first visit to Disneyland.

Downey Jr. made the confession while being honoured in Anaheim at Disney's biennial D23 convention. Following an introduction by Disney chief executive officer Bob Iger, Downey told the crowd about his Disney pot bust.

"Here's a bit of trivia for you, the very first time I went to Disneyland I was transported to another place… within moments of being arrested," Downey Jr. said. "I was brought to a surprisingly friendly processing centre. Given a stern warning and returned, if memory servers, to one very disappointed group chaperone. I would like to make amends for whoever had to contain me for smoking pot in the gondola without a licence."

He continued: "I'm sorry, I don't want to further confuse the issue by insinuating that pot smoking licences for the gondola are in any way attainable, or for any of the other park attractions… Maybe the Imagineers but that's their own business.

"That's a load off."

It's hard to tell how serious Downey Jr. is being, of course. And he did follow up the weed story with something a bit more serious.

"I'm delighted to be among such a rich and diverse group of humans, all seeking to reflect the many challenges of life through the lens of creative expression," the actor said. "For my part, playing Tony over many years, the thematic idea that technology can guide our species towards enlightenment or destruction, it's been a really worthwhile and ongoing meditation. Honestly, it's been a great gift."
