Ever since the COVID-19 pandemic hit, many industries have been completely upended. Concerts, restaurants and movies are just a small handful of work sectors that have been affected. Just how bad are things? Well, Robert De Niro might only make $7.5 million USD this year.

According to Page Six, this little tidbit — which may or may not have been accompanied by the world's tiniest violin — emerged when De Niro appeared in court after his estranged wife Grace Hightower asked him to raise her monthly credit card limit from $50,000 USD to $100,000 USD.

De Niro's lawyers claimed that his financial status was in question thanks to COVID-19, which forced the closure of the restaurants Nobu and Greenwich Hotel, both of which he has stakes in.

Caroline Krauss, who is De Niro's lawyer, said, "His accounts and business manager… says that the best case for Mr. De Niro, if everything starts to turn around this year… He is going to be lucky if he makes $7.5 million this year."

Krauss added that under the terms of De Niro's 2004 prenuptial agreement with Hightower, he has to pay out $1 million a year in spousal support if he's making $15 million or more in income. Otherwise, if his income declines as do his payments.

It's all just very, very relatable. Stars — they're just like us.
