Harry Dean Stanton — the veteran actor made famous with iconic roles in Twin Peaks, Escape from New York and Alien — has died. Details are just now emerging, but TMZ reports that Stanton died peacefully Friday afternoon (September 15) of natural causes at L.A.'s Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. He was 91.

Stanton's filmography is as deep as it is long. Along with appearing the aforementioned films, he was also in Godfather II, Pretty in Pink, Repo Man, Big Love, Christine, Cool Hand Luke, Paris, Texas and Wild at Heart, among many others. Many may have most recently seen Stanton on the revival of Twin Peaks, where he revised his role as Carl Rodd.

As Robert Ebert once said, "Stanton has long inhabited the darker corners of American noir, with his lean face and hungry eyes, and here he creates a sad poetry."

Over the years, Stanton also played in the Harry Dean Stanton Band. His final role will reportedly be seen in Lucky.

Stanton never married, though was said to have "one or two children."
