The Muppets aren't the only puppet creatures treated to a reboot — it turns out that some much more sinister characters are also coming back. Specifically, the murderous marionettes from Charles Band's horror franchise Puppet Master.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, screenwriter S. Craig Zahler (Bone Tomahawk) has been tapped to write the first film in the new series. For now, the film has the working title Puppet Master: The Littlest Reich.

The new film series is being produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Mark Vahradian for di Bonaventura Pictures alongside Dallas Sonnier and Jack Heller for Caliber. Charles Band will also executive produce.

"We couldn't be more excited to take the series in a new direction while embracing all the practical effects and terrifying insanity that fans of the Puppet Master films love," Heller said in a statement.
