'Punky Brewster' Is Getting a Sequel Series

Hollywood is so obsessed with reboots, remakes and sequels that we're running out of ways to introduce these stories without repeating ourselves. Today's title on the docket is Punky Brewster, the beloved 1980s sitcom that will now be reimagined with a sequel set in the modern world.

As The Hollywood Reporter explains, Universal Content Productions is currently gearing up to revive the series. Rather than reboot the original show with new actors, original star Soleil Moon Frye will once again play Punky.

In the new series, Punky Brewster is a single mother of three who attempts to get her life back on track after meeting a girl who reminds her of her younger self.

The proposed show doesn't have a network attached just yet, but it's being written by Steve and Jim Armogida (School of Rock).
