Published Sep 30, 2015From Clone High to The Lego Movie to 21 Jump Street to The Last Man on Earth, there's no stopping the creative team of Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. The pair continue to make hit after hit, so they've become a go-to team in Hollywood. We recently learned that they're working together on a forthcoming Han Solo film, and now they've confirmed another project in the works.
The pair are gearing up to helm an upcoming TV adaptation of the wildly successful Serial podcast. Working with Sarah Koenig and the team from This American Life, the scripted series is being produced for Fox 21 TV Studios.
The show will not follow the Adnan Syed case from the podcast, instead focusing in on a different case for its scripted run.
In a statement, Fox 21 TV Studios president Bert Salke said, "From the very first week of Serial's release last fall, everyone at Fox 21TVS was obsessed with the podcast. One year later, thanks to the incredible passion of Chris and Phil, who flew to New York and shared their vision with Sarah, Julie [Synder], Alissa [Shipp] and Ira [Glass] for what the series could be, we're moving forward on this exciting project. What you have here is a 'once every ten years creative storytelling phenom' with a 'once in ten years take' with a 'once in twenty-five years creative team.' We are confident we'll attract a spectacular writer and look forward to pitching it to outlets very soon."
Serial's Julie Snyder added, "Chris and Phil take an unexpected approach to telling stories and that is so appealing to us at Serial. They experiment. They don't mimic formulas. Developing a show with them is exciting because we feel like we speak the same language, only they're smarter than us."
Stay tuned for more information on the Serial TV series as it becomes available. Thanks to The Hollywood Reporter for the tip.
