Peter Capaldi Is Stepping Down from 'Doctor Who'
Doctor Who fans have got one last year with Peter Capaldi, as the beloved actor has announced plans to move on from the role.

Capaldi, who first stepped in as the show's titular character in 2013, has announced that he'll move on after the show's 2017 Christmas special.

"One of the greatest privileges of being Doctor Who is to see the world at its best," he said in an announcement. "From our brilliant crew and creative team working for the best broadcaster on the planet, to the viewers and fans whose endless creativity, generosity and inclusiveness points to a brighter future ahead. I can't thank everyone enough. It's been cosmic."

Capaldi was the 12th actor to take on the lead role in the long-running sci-fi series. It's unclear who will fill his shoes, though he's exiting at the same time as showrunner Steven Moffat.
