Best known as the star of the hit '70s sitcom The Partridge Family, musician and actor David Cassidy has died at the age of 67.

Cassidy's family confirmed his death via a statement through his publicist. It reads as follows:

On behalf of the entire Cassidy family, it is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father, our uncle, and our dear brother, David Cassidy. David died surrounded by those he loved, with joy in his heart and free from the pain that had gripped him for so long. Thank you for the abundance and support you have shown him these many years.

Cassidy had been in the hospital for several days due to organ failure. He also announced that he had been diagnosed with dementia earlier this year.

Outside of his work on The Partridge Family, Cassidy had a successful solo career, releasing numerous albums under his own name.
