Oprah Shuts Down Rumours of Running for President in 2020

"I don't have the DNA for it"

Oprah Winfrey has said she will not run for the presidency of the United States in the next election.

The billionaire media mogul told InStyle magazine that she had no plans to appear on the ballot come 2020.

"I've always felt very secure and confident with myself in knowing what I could do and what I could not," she said. "And so it's not something that interests me. I don't have the DNA for it."

And while she admits that the unauthorized wishful thinking "Oprah 2020" merch that's emerged is "cute," she's not interested in making it a reality.

"I met with someone the other day who said that they would help me with a campaign," she said. "That's not for me."

The public push for Winfrey to run gained significant steam after she delivered an inspiring acceptance speech for the Cecil B. DeMille Award at this year's Golden Globes ceremony.

A recent poll even suggested that American voters would elect Winfrey over Trump if she were to run — though the current POTUS unsurprisingly thinks otherwise.
