Vanity Fair unveiled the Annie Leibovitz-shot cover of their annual Hollywood issue yesterday (January 25), and people were quick to look beyond the gorgeous humans and chic styling to point out a grotesque visual illusion — Reese Witherspoon's third leg.
12 extraordinary stars, one very momentous year. The 2018 Hollywood portfolio is here: https://t.co/6PfsFsPzK1 pic.twitter.com/MfRsp2y9Z3

Leaning sideways into Winfrey, Witherspoon's pose and flesh-tone dress combined to create what appears to be a third leg poking out from under said dress, and Twitter cannot get over it.
im tryna figure out how many legs reese witherspoon's got in here, it's been bothering me for the last five minutes pic.twitter.com/u1uQ63sDdd

Imagine the millions of dollars that have been spent digitally removing Reese Witherspoon's third leg from films and TV shows over the years. pic.twitter.com/mawsX6WLZ9

I am so excited for the inevitable think piece written by Reese Witherspoon's third leg.
— Anne T. Donahue (@annetdonahue) January 26, 2018
Even Witherspoon herself poked fun at the bizarre optical illusion — though she refused to apologize for snuggling Winfrey.
Well...I guess everybody knows now...I have 3 legs. I hope you can still accept me for who I am. 😃( and I will never apologize for snuggling @Oprah .. if you get the opportunity, I highly recommend it;) https://t.co/6GyrfWxNSY

Vanity Fair, however, has assured readers that it's merely an illusion created by the lining of Witherspoon's dress.
While we would have loved the exclusive on @RWitherspoon's three legs, unfortunately it's just the lining of her dress. https://t.co/HJjvbc037S

The cover photo conspiracy theories didn't end there, though. A behind-the-scenes shot of Winfrey and Witherspoon was also unveiled — complete with Oprah's third hand.

Oprah has three hands.
Reese Witherspoon has three legs.
I know who I'm voting for in 2020.

A more clear-cut Photoshop fail, the Internet has been having a field day with that shot, as well. Vanity Fair has since owned up to the mistake in good humour — complete with a three-armed shruggie emoji.
As for @Oprah, how can we expect her to juggle it all with just two hands?

¯\_(ツ)_/¯_/¯ (We are correcting this error online.) https://t.co/QNd74YtSTz
Winfrey even weighed in with a touching message of body positivity and acceptance directed at her A Wrinkle in Time co-star.
I accept your 3d leg. As I know you accept my 3d hand👋🏾👋🏾👋🏾❤️

In other Winfrey and Witherspoon news, the A Wrinkle in Time stars have been transformed into their very own Barbie dolls. Mindy Kaling's character in the film has also been given the plastic treatment, and as far as we can tell, each of the dolls only has two arms and two legs apiece.
Get a look at the upcoming Mrs. Which, Mrs. Whatsit and Mrs. Who figures below.
