Oprah and Reese Witherspoon Are Loving Their Extra Hands and Legs on 'Vanity Fair' Cover

BY Sarah MurphyPublished Jan 26, 2018

It takes a lot to steal the spotlight from a magazine cover featuring Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, Tom Hanks and many more A-listers, but some faulty Photoshop editing has managed to do just that.

Vanity Fair unveiled the Annie Leibovitz-shot cover of their annual Hollywood issue yesterday (January 25), and people were quick to look beyond the gorgeous humans and chic styling to point out a grotesque visual illusion — Reese Witherspoon's third leg.

Leaning sideways into Winfrey, Witherspoon's pose and flesh-tone dress combined to create what appears to be a third leg poking out from under said dress, and Twitter cannot get over it.

Even Witherspoon herself poked fun at the bizarre optical illusion — though she refused to apologize for snuggling Winfrey.

Vanity Fair, however, has assured readers that it's merely an illusion created by the lining of Witherspoon's dress.
The cover photo conspiracy theories didn't end there, though. A behind-the-scenes shot of Winfrey and Witherspoon was also unveiled — complete with Oprah's third hand.

A more clear-cut Photoshop fail, the Internet has been having a field day with that shot, as well. Vanity Fair has since owned up to the mistake in good humour — complete with a three-armed shruggie emoji.

Winfrey even weighed in with a touching message of body positivity and acceptance directed at her A Wrinkle in Time co-star.

In other Winfrey and Witherspoon news, the A Wrinkle in Time stars have been transformed into their very own Barbie dolls. Mindy Kaling's character in the film has also been given the plastic treatment, and as far as we can tell, each of the dolls only has two arms and two legs apiece.
