Having done the bulk of his music-making with Opeth, frontman Mikael Åkerfeldt will now make his scoring debut with a new Netflix series helmed by Jonas Åkerlund.
Åkerfeldt will provide music for Clark, a six-part miniseries from the former Bathory drummer that will star fellow Swede Bill Skarsgård, who played Pennywise the Dancing Clown from the IT films.
Per a press release, Clark will centre on "the Swedish criminal Clark Olofsson who has been referred to as a 'celebrity gangster,' has given rise to the concept of Stockholm syndrome, managed to escape prisons and committed robberies all over Europe."
Of the series, Åkerlund offered, "Clark is the story about the most politically incorrect man, who lived the most politically incorrect life. These are the kinds of stories I always look for. It's an ultra-violent, witty, emotional, real and surreal biography to put a face to the name Stockholm Syndrome, but it isn't just about the Norrmalmstorg Robbery. It's about his whole life and what made him who he is, the truth and lies of his incredible career."
Of his leading man, Åkerlund added, "Bill Skarsgård is the perfect match for this and he will bring the Stockholm Syndrome to the role. And Netflix is the perfect platform, they are not just the biggest streaming service, they also have the boldness to tell this incredible story."
While further details of Åkerfeldt's musical involvement were not disclosed, the press release notes that Clark will feature dialogue spoken in Swedish.
That might not be an issue for dedicated listeners of Opeth's 2019 album In Cauda Venenum, which was released in both Swedish and English editions.
Åkerlund's black metal horror-thriller Lords of Chaos also saw release early last year.
