Nova Scotia Man Builds Rideable TIE Fighter Replica

Fans of Star Wars would have to travel to a galaxy far, far away to have any hope of procuring one of the Empire's high-powered TIE Fighters, but a Nova Scotia man has done the next best thing by building himself a rideable replica.

Allan Carver of Queensland created the two-metre tall remote-controlled replica with recycled materials including steel and foam. The motorized ship, powered by wheelchair motors, can carry an adult in its cockpit and boasts a top speed of 10 km/h.

The vessel also comes complete with a soundboard, programmed to emit the TIE fighter's recognizable flyby sound and John Williams' "Imperial March."

Carver told the Canadian Press that he was inspired to build the ship after Rian Johnson's Star Wars: The Last Jedi landed in theatres last December. Carver added that it took three months to build, and he's not sure how much it cost him.

Carver also posted a video log of the building process online. You can find it along with some stills of the process below. In the description, he estimates that his build is roughly one third the scale of a real TIE fighter depicted in the Star Wars series of films.
