Netflix to Release 'Planet Earth' Follow-Up 'Our Planet' in 2019

Some nine years ago, we spent our evenings slouched back on the couch with a bag of chips as documentarian experts brought us around the globe with their acclaimed Planet Earth series. In a few years, we'll get to have a similar experience all over again as the show's creators have announced a proper follow-up.

Called Our Planet, the eight-part series is being helmed by Alastair Fothergill and Keith Scholey, who previously worked together on Planet Earth and its counterparts Frozen Planet and Blue Planet.

"Our Planet is going to raise the bar for natural history landmarks," Fothergill said in a press release. "We will reveal the most amazing sights on Earth and show them in ways they have never been seen before."

The series will be shot with 4K camera technology, and promises to offer more glimpses into the lives of rare animals and natural habitats.

Unfortunately, we'll have to wait a little while before we can binge-watch nature at its most miraculous. Our Planet is slated to arrive in 2019 on Netflix.
