Chris Lilley created iconic characters like Ja'mie, Jonah and Mr. G (and played them all) on cult hit Summer Heights High, but he'll be bringing some new ideas to the screen soon. He's landed a deal with Netflix for a new 10-episode comedy series.

The series' title has yet to be revealed, though production has already started in Queensland, Australia.

Lilley's longtime collaborator Laura Waters is also involved in the new project. She previously worked with Lilley on Summer Heights High and its spin-off series Ja'mie: Private School Girl and Jonah from Tonga, as well as Angry Boys.

In recent years, Lilley has come under fire for his portrayal of Jonah Takalua, drawing criticism for his portrayal of Tongan culture.

He also incited controversy for his use of blackface as the character S. Mouse in his 2011 series Angry Boys.

Lilley generated further controversy last year, when he shared a video clip of his Angry Boys character in blackface performing a song called "Squashed N***a" in the wake of a high-profile Australian manslaughter case involving an Indigenous boy who was run over and killed.
