BY Josiah HughesPublished Jan 27, 2016

He's still never really matched the hype of his debut film Napoleon Dynamite, with recent flops like Don Verdean and the shelved Masterminds dampening his reputation even further, but Jared Hess continues to get work. His next project just might be the one that saves his career.

As Deadline reports, Hess has been tapped to direct NickToons — a new film that'll apply the Who Framed Roger Rabbit? model to Nickelodeon's classic cartoon characters.

Hess will also write the film with his wife and writing partner Jarusha Hess. The plot of the film isn't exactly crystal clear, but there are many classic characters to pull from thanks to shows like Ren & StimpyRugratsRocko's Modern LifeAaahh! Real Monsters and many others.

As previously reported, Nickelodeon recently brought back its '90s programming for a new block called The Splat.

Stay tuned for more information on the NickToons movie as it becomes available.
