Creator Sam Esmail revealed on Twitter today that the fourth season would be the "final chapter" in the story of cyber-security-engineer-turned-hacker Elliot.
Excited to show you guys the final chapter in Elliot's journey. It's going to be sad to say goodbye to Mr. Robot, but it'll be sadder to say goodbye to all the fans. Thanks for hanging with us throughout the years and cannot wait to share the conclusion with all of you.— Sam Esmail (@samesmail) August 29, 2018
The show stars Rami Malek and Christian Slater, and has racked up 13 Emmy nominations for USA Network, including three for this year's upcoming ceremony. Slater has been nominated for three Golden Globes and won for Best Supporting Actor in 2016, while Malek has been nominated for Best Actor at the Golden Globes twice.
"We've explored these different stages of Elliot and Robot and his internal struggle," Esmail told Variety after Season 3 came to an end. "Now we're getting into that stage that this season's about: disintegration. Next season, we'll then start to explore what happens when they do start to integrate."
Season 4 is slated to premiere in 2019, though a specific release date has not been announced. It's also unclear how many episodes it will consist of.
