Megyn Kelly — former Fox News anchor and Roger Ailes sexual misconduct accuser — has shared a new video discussing the film that was made about the late and tumultuous part of her career at Fox, Jay Roach's Bombshell.
Megyn Kelly Presents: A Response to "Bombshell" went live on Kelly's YouTube channel yesterday afternoon (January 9). The video features Kelly, Juliet Huddy, Rudi Bakhtiar and Julie Zann, all former Fox News journalists who accused their former chairman and CEO Roger Ailes (and other anchors) of sexual misconduct around the time of the 2016 U.S. presidential election — and amidst the #MeToo movement.
Joined by her husband, Kelly and her former colleagues watched Roach's film and later sat down to discuss the realities and discrepancies they noticed.
Disturbingly, Zann's immediate reaction to the film was to say, "It was worse than that" and "Wow, you really let Roger off easy."
Later, Kelly and her guests talk about a scene in the film that was apparently true to many of their experiences. "The spin" or "the twirl" as the women describe it, was one of the experiences they all vaguely shared at the hands of Ailes.
As portrayed in the film, Ailes allegedly coerced women in the confines of his office to spin on command — a creepy and demeaning practice that allowed him to check out his employees from 360 degrees.
"I was asked to do the spin," Kelly admits. "And God help me, I did it. I know people think it's like 'Oh you had to spin around,' but I remember feeling like I put myself through school. I was offered a partnership at Jones Day, one of the best law firms in the world. I argued before federal courts of appeal all over the nation. I came here, I'm covering the United States Supreme Court. I graduated with honours from all of my programs and now he wants me to twirl."
She continues, "And I did it. If you don't get how demeaning that is, I can't help you."
Later in the discussion, Kelly admits, "I actually don't happen to be one of those people who believes in 'Believe all women.' Some women lie. Trust me, I practiced law for 10 years. Some people make it up. Most don't — but some do."
Megyn Kelly left Fox News for NBC in 2017. Roger Ailes was paid out on his contract after being ousted from Fox and died later that same year.
Bombshell stars Charlize Theron as Kelly, Nicole Kidman as Gretchen Carlson, and Margot Robbie as a composite character partially inspired by Zann. The film hit theatres on December 20. Read our review here.
