Mary Poppins Returns in the First Trailer for 'Mary Poppins Returns'

BY Josiah HughesPublished Sep 17, 2018

We're getting a sequel to Mary Poppins some 54 years after the original hit theatres. While that may sound like a ridiculous idea, the first trailer for Rob Marshall's latest Disney film suggests an aesthetically pleasing throwback.

The film stars Emily Blunt as the titular Poppins, and she's joined by  Lin-Manuel Miranda, Ben Whishaw, Emily Mortimer, Pixie Davies, Joel Dawson, Nathanael Saleh, Julie Walters, Colin Firth, Meryl Streep and Angela Lansbury.

Rather than set the sequel in the present age and feature Poppins wearing a bluetooth on a skateboard, the new version of the film takes place in the 1930s, some 25 years after the story of the original.

Watch the first official trailer for Mary Poppins Returns below. The film arrives on December 19.
