Among Disney's many, many announcements today was one regarding the hugely anticipated Black Panther II. Today, we learned both the film's new release date and that the late Chadwick Boseman will not be recast for the sequel.

The announcement came from Marvel head Kevin Feige, who paid tribute to Boseman near the end of Disney Investor Day.

"I wanted to acknowledge the devastating loss of a dear friend and member of the Marvel Studios family," Feige said [via Deadline]. "Chadwick Boseman was an immensely talented actor and an inspirational individual who affected all of our lives professionally and personally. His portrayal of T'Challa the Black Panther is iconic and transcends iteration of the character in any other medium from Marvel's past."

Feige continued, "To honour the legacy that Chad helped us build through his portrayal of the king of Wakanda, we want to continue to explore the world of Wakanda and all of the rich and varied characters introduced in the first film."

As for that release date, Black Panther II will arrive on July 8, 2022. Ryan Coogler, who did the hugely successful first film, will be back to direct.

Boseman died this summer at the age of 43 following a battle with colon cancer.
