Martin Scorsese is not just one of the most celebrated filmmakers of all time — he's also a dad. So naturally, he must be made to feel like dust about all things social media-related by his daughter, 24-year-old Francesca, who apparently tricked him into starring in some of her TikTok videos.

In a new interview with The Los Angeles Times, the director insisted that his newfound fame on the clock app — stemming from Francesca's clips of him ranking films and guessing things like what slang words mean and what "feminine items" are — wasn't a carefully orchestrated PR stunt for Killers of the Flower Moon; he truly had no idea what was going on.

"I was tricked into that," Scorsese revealed of the latest TikTok he appeared in on Francesca's account, which saw him complete the platform's movie bracket by choosing Birdman over The Good, the Bad and the Ugly. "That was a trick. I didn't know those things go viral. They say 'viral.' I didn't know."

"I'm at home doing things and she comes up to me and says, 'Dad, look over here and tell me this.' So I'm in my pyjamas," he explained, adding that Francesca would describe the app's trends as "a thing they're doing." He remembered asking, as anyone would, "Who's 'they?' She says, 'Everybody's doing it. It's a thing called TikTok.'" Being an Italian dad, he was obviously like, "All right, all right."

"That I didn't know was going to go up," the filmmaker said of the most recent video, which has racked up over 2.8 million views. "I was just doing it in the other room with her. I don't know what they're going to do. They always have those iPhone cameras in their hands. You're not aware. I honestly did not know she was going to post it," he continued, checking with journalist Glenn Whipp, "They use the words 'post it,' right?"
