Published Mar 04, 2016Here's a new litmus test to determine just how progressive nerds are these days — Mark Hamill, beloved Star Wars actor, has said that his character Luke Skywalker might be gay.
The notion might be enough to send some closed-minded comic book guys tumbling out of their ergonomic gaming chairs, but Hamill has correctly explained that it's no big deal.
Speaking with the Sun [via the Guardian], the actor opened up about J.J. Abrams' recent comments that some Star Wars characters could be gay.
"In the old days, you would get fan mail," he explained. "But now fans are writing and asking all these questions: 'I'm bullied in school… I'm afraid to come out.'
"They say to me: 'Could Luke be gay?' I'd say it is meant to be interpreted by the viewer. If you think Luke is gay, of course he is. You should not be ashamed of it. Judge Luke by his character, not by who he loves."
We'll get to experience more of Luke Skywalker's sage wisdom when Star Wars: Episode VIII lands in 2017.
