Mario Lopez Slammed for Comments About Raising Transgender Kids

Appearing on 'The Candace Owens Show,' he called it "dangerous" for young kids to express their gender

Former Saved By the Bell star Mario Lopez recently appeared on The Candace Owens Show, and has come under fire for comments he made about parenting transgender children.

Noted far-right conservative Owens brought up what she called "a weird trend" of parents accepting and helping young children transition, and pointed to the example of Charlize Theron's seven-year-old daughter Jackson, who identifies as a girl.

"I am trying to understand this new Hollywood mentality where they just think their children now have the mental authority," Owens said.

Lopez responded by saying that he's "blown away too," and didn't want to be "lumped in" with celebrities like Theron.

"My God if you're three-years-old, I just think it's dangerous as a parent to make this determination then," he continued. "It's sort of alarming and my gosh, I just think about the repercussions later on.'

"I think parents need to allow their kids to be kids, but at the same time, you got to be the adult in the situation," he added.

Lopez later went on to say that he thinks hashtags like #BelieveWomen are "dangerous" because "people lie and sometimes those people are women."

"God forbid you have a son out there and a girl may have felt a certain way about a situation — dismissed, hurt, whatever — and is feeling vengeful and just decides to tell a certain story that's not exactly true," he said.

The controversial opinions have received plenty of backlash online from trans advocates and other LGBTQ+ allies.
