Marilyn Manson Guitarist Daisy Berkowitz Dead at 49

Daisy Berkowitz — best known as the founding guitarist in Marilyn Manson's band — has died. The musician's passing follows his four-year fight with colon cancer. He was 49.

Born Scott Mitchell Putesky, he and Manson formed their group in 1989, as a satirical jab at American's obsession with serial killers and beautiful women. His own stage persona was an amalgamation of Daisy Duke and David Berkowitz's names.

Putesky is fully credited on Manson's 1994 debut album Portrait of an American Family and the 1995 EP Smells Like Children, but left the band during the recording of 1996's Antichrist Superstar.

Following his time with Marilyn Manson, Putesky adopted the moniker SMP and recorded and performed music with Three Ton Gate, Jack Off Jill and Kill Miss Pretty.

Despite their acrimonious split, Manson has shared a touching tribute to his former creative collaborator and friend. See it below.
