Man Arrested for Late Charges on 'Freddy Got Fingered' VHS Rental

Say what you will about the film's quality in a more traditional sense, but true heads know that Tom Green's Freddy Got Fingered is a surreal, dadaist masterpiece. That said, here's hoping you returned the copy you rented when video stores were still a thing, because an American man was just arrested for failing to return his VHS.

As WSCO reports, Concord, California resident James Meyers finally decided to hunker down and watch Green's classic work in 2002. He rented it from J&J's Video and forgot to return it. Some 14 years later, Meyers was arrested.

Meyers was driving his daughter to school earlier this week when police pulled him over for a broken tail light. When they ran his license, they discovered a warrant out for his arrest.

Meyers recalled his experience with police, saying, "The officer said, 'I don't know how to tell you this but there's a warrant out for your arrest from 2002. Apparently you rented the movie Freddy Got Fingered and never returned it.' I thought he was joking."

J&J's Video has since gone out of business, but Meyers could face a misdemeanour charge of up to $200 for the unreturned comedy classic.

Tom Green himself responded to the story on Twitter:

Jason Meyers will appear in court on April 27.
