Lucas Hedges Does a Perfect Shia LaBeouf in the First Trailer for 'Honey Boy'

BY Josiah HughesPublished Aug 8, 2019

As an autobiographical film written by Shia LaBeouf — who plays his own dad in the project — one might expect Honey Boy to be a little too meta for its own good. As we said at Sundance, however, the film is an actual masterpiece. Ahead of its November arrival, you get your first taste today with a new trailer.

Honey Boy was directed by Alma Har'el, who highlights its performances with her rich cinematography. The film sees Lucas Hedges play an adult version of a vaguely fictionalized Shia named Otis, while Noah Jupe is equally convincing as a child version of Otis a.k.a. Shia. Then there's the real-life Shia, who plays his own dad.

It's all very confusing in words, but as a film its downright magical. Watch the trailer for Honey Boy below.
