Taylor Swift will most likely release a new album this year, but hopefully there's still time to squeak out one more track about someone who wronged her. After all, Mozart in the Jungle star Lola Kirke has just put the singer on blast for failing to speak out against Donald Trump in the 2016 election.
Presumably in an effort to preserve her entire massive fanbase, Swift was famously silent on the election and refused to endorse a candidate. Speaking with Vogue, Kirke had some strong critical words for that decision.
The interviewer asked her if she felt like she needed to discuss politics publicly as a celebrity. "I mean, in this fucking day and age, yeah, I do," she said. "For me, it's really important to elevate voices and causes that don't get as much attention with whatever attention I get. I totally understand why some people won't do that; I definitely think that there are certain celebrities who really could offer more help to grassroots movements with their power — and don't."
Vogue added to her statement, asking if she meant "people with a huge platform." Kirke replied, "Yeah, like Taylor fucking Swift, who may as well have voted for Trump, as far as I'm concerned, by not doing anything."
