Published Feb 13, 2017Metallica and Lady Gaga's Grammy duet provided us with some seriously disastrous live television last night (February 12). As previously reported, frontman James Hetfield was left shouting the words to "Moth Into Flame" into the void of the Staples Center when someone failed to turn his mic on — but things were already heading downhill before the performers even stepped on stage.
Orange Is the New Black star Laverne Cox was tasked with announcing the collaboration, but neglected to mention Metallica by name, introducing the performers as "eight-time Grammy winners and six-time Grammy award winner, Lady Gaga."
To be honest, the band probably didn't mind having their name left off that trainwreck of a performance, but Cox has since issued a statement apologizing for the misspoken TV segment.
She tweeted an apology to the band and their fans, signing off with: "Love you Metallica. You rock."
In related news, TMZ is reporting that the ensuing mic mishap was the wrongdoing of a stagehand who "accidentally" (they think) unplugged a wire connected to Hetfield's microphone.
