Kevin Smith Isn't Sure If a Bomb Threat at His Theatre Is "Legit" or a Joke

"I think it's a joke about how my movies have 'bombed' in theatres"

While Kevin Smith and his wife have yet to close the deal on purchasing New Jersey's Atlantic Moviehouse, news about the comic's home-state cinema is blowing up, perhaps literally. According to Smith, someone is threatening to bomb the theatre once he takes over, but he isn't sure if he believes them.

In a tweet, Smith shared a screenshot of a forwarded text informing him that someone really doesn't want him to take over the movie theatre he used to attend with his Dad.

"I don't want to alarm you but, we just got a call at the theatre," the text reads. "The person asked my manager if Kevin Smith was buying the theatre. They said that we shouldn't do that and that if we did, there would be bomb threats."

The text continued: "I have informed Fred Rast who instructed us to inform the police. My manager has called the police to report it. The number is a California number. I'm sure it was some a-hole kids. But I thought you should know. I'll keep you updated."

Smith seems to agree with the theory that the perps are just some punk kids — even going as far as saying he thinks it's a jab at his filmmaking. In the aforementioned tweet, the director said, "My kid's worried this is a legit threat. I think it's a joke about how my movies have 'bombed' in theatres. Thoughts?"

Smith's long-awaited next project Clerks III is due to arrive next month. At least it has a chance to tank, unlike Batgirl — Smith called the film's cancellation an "incredibly bad look" earlier this week.
