Kenny Vs. Spenny - Season Six

BY Michael EdwardsPublished Sep 22, 2010

The premise for Kenny Vs. Spenny is one of such genius that it's hard to believe it didn't make it to air earlier. The combination of the deviousness of Kenny Hotz and the gullibility of Spencer Rice has made for some memorable situations over the past five seasons. At this point, however, the entire concept is being stretched very thin. Kenny's cheating, or at least, imaginative interpretation of the rules, has become predictable. Likewise, Spenny's completely incredulous responses to Kenny's antics don't have the same impact they once did, because if he hasn't seen it coming after all these years, he never will, or is the stupidest person on the planet. That isn't to say there aren't some giggles during the 13 episodes in season six. But for every enjoyable one, such as "Who Can Produce the Best Commercial?" and "Who Can Put on the Best Play?," there is "Who Can Get Further with the Other Guy's Mom?" and "Who Can Keep their Head in a Chicken Coop the Longest?," which are basically less funny retreads of earlier shows. And some of the humiliations are shockingly mean and revolting this time. It might be a good thing that both are moving on to new solo projects because based on this season, it might be time to put Kenny Vs. Spenny on ice. The extras are a little on the sparse side. There is a bonus episode ("Who Can Be a Bigger Idiot?"), originally only available online, which turns out to be one of the better episodes of the season, but the other deleted scenes and photos are there simply so they can say there are extras on the DVD. The real disappointment is there is no commentary track, as those have been so entertaining in the past. Maybe even they realise they're just going through the motions and don't have anything new to offer.
