Jussie Smollett Returns to Instagram (with the Comments Disabled)

BY Sarah MurphyPublished Jun 11, 2019

Jussie Smollett has dominated headlines since January, when the actor claimed he was the victim of a hate crime, but was later deemed to have orchestrated the attack and was charged with filing a false police report. Smollett has since been cleared of all charges but has been let go from Empire — and now he's returned to social media for the first time since the whole ordeal began.

The actor posted to Instagram for the first time since he shared photos of the event in Chicago back in January, after which the supposed attack took place.

His new post features a video of playwright Tarell Alvin McCraney's introduction to Choir Boy from Sunday night's (June 9) Tony Awards broadcast. In the clip, he champions black queer characters.

Smollett shared the clip, and captioned it, "So much #PRIDE."

Reaction to his return is a little hard to gauge, given that he opted to return to Instagram with the comments turned off.
