The murders of both 2Pac and the Notorious B.I.G. have been explored through film before, though primarily in documentary form. Now, the investigations following the passing of the East and West coast hip-hop giants are set to be dramatized with none other than Johnny Depp in the starring role.

Set to be titled LabyrinthScreen Daily reports that Depp has signed on to portray late Los Angeles detective Russell Poole in the film. While the case was never solved, Poole's work was instrumental in exposing corruption within the LAPD. He passed away last year of an apparent heart attack.

The film is based on Randall Sullivan's book of the same name, which profiled the detective. Brad Furman (The Lincoln Lawyer, the Infiltrator) will direct the film, set to begin production at the end of this year.
