Antiques Roadshow viewers witnessed an impressive quote on a recent episode, which featured a guitar that had been owned by both John Lennon and George Harrison.
The owner, a session musician and pal of Harrison's, was taken aback to learn that the fretless Bartell's of California instrument was valued between £300,000 and £400,000 (approximately $500,000 to $700,000 CAD).
A prototype, only two of the guitars were ever made — one for Lennon and one for Jimi Hendrix.
The owner claimed that Harrison had later given him the guitar because he could play it better than the Beatle. He was even able to provide a photograph of Harrison playing the same guitar.
"I think in 25 years it's by far the most expensive thing I've ever seen," the appraiser, Jon Baddeley said. "You know to a guitar collector it's initially a very rare guitar. Then to somebody who's a Beatles fan, to own a guitar that was once owned by both John Lennon and George Harrison, can you get a better history? Two of the most important rock stars of the 20th century."
