As the title implies, the film explores the idea of silence as a means of survival against a terrifying monster — which left viewers both unsettled by the onscreen action and terrified to make noise.
Popcorn eaters and coughers (and popcorn eaters choking on kernels, presumably) had a particularly stressful time watching the flick. As for those who couldn't put down the snacks or stifle their bodily sounds, they're getting roasted on social media.

It would be a stretch to call this "audience participation", but seeing A Quiet Place in a crowded theater was incredible, as you could feel everyone doing their best *not* to make any noise. The guy next to me was eating popcorn *very* slowly to be quiet as possible.

Finally I think of it. The perfect quip to shut down the teens talking through A Quiet Place. I shout it out—"Ummm... it's not called A Loud Place!!"
— Patrick Walsh (@thepatrickwalsh) April 9, 2018
But they don't hear it. For I am at home. The movie was hours ago. The teens will never hear my classic quip.
The thing about A Quiet Place is: Doesn't that family fart? Even in their sleep?

Thoroughly enjoyed A QUIET PLACE, a utopian fantasy in which no one is allowed to talk, and anyone who interrupts my silence is killed for their transgression.

The moral of A Quiet Place is kids are loud and you shouldn't have them

A Quiet Place is maybe the most stressed out I've been during a movie in a good while.

Also don't get popcorn during this movie. Trust me.
