John Carpenter Returns with New 'Lost Themes' Album

Listen to "Weeping Ghost" from 'Lost Themes III: Alive After Death'

The Oxford English Dictionary defines "horror" as "an intense feeling of fear, shock or disgust" — and horror master John Carpenter is here to provide just that with another of his spooky Lost Themes albums.

Following two prior instalments in the series (from 2015 and 2016, respectively), Lost Themes III: Alive After Death will be out on February 5 through Sacred Bones. As with past albums, Carpenter recorded these instrumental synth-rock songs with his son Cody Carpenter and godson Daniel Davies, evoking the mood of his classic film scores.

Carpenter said in a statement, "We begin with a theme, a bass line, a pad, something that sounds good and will lead us to the next layer. We then just keep adding on from there. We understand each other's strengths and weaknesses, how to communicate without words, and the process is easier now than it was in the beginning. We've matured."

Following the release of the album track "Skeleton" this summer, the director/musician has shared a new track from the album called "Weeping Ghost," which involves a pulsing quarter-note beat and an eerie blend of retro synths and distorted guitars.
