Last fall, Jim Carrey's girlfriend Cathriona White committed suicide by intentionally overdosing on drugs. Now, White's estranged husband Mark Burton has filed a lawsuit claiming that Carrey provided her with the drugs.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Burton has alleged that Carrey used "his immense wealth and celebrity status to illegally obtain and distribute highly addictive and, in this case deadly, controlled substances."
Further, the complaint says that the coroner "determined that the Drugs that caused White's death - Ambien, Propranolol, and Percocet (Oxycodone) - all came from three pill bottles found near her body bearing the name 'Arthur King.'"
Burton also alleges that Carrey knew White was prone to depression and suicidal thoughts. Carrey and White had broken up just days before her death.
White is suing for violation of the Drug Dealer Liability Act and wrongful death while seeking statutory and punitive damages — plus funeral and burial expenses.
Jim Carrey's representatives have not yet responded to the lawsuit.
