In 2015, Jim Carrey's ex-girlfriend Cathriona White committed suicide by intentionally overdosing on drugs. Then, last year, White's estranged husband Mark Burton filed a lawsuit claiming that Carrey provided her with the drugs. Now it looks as if the case will go to trial.

According to the Associated Press, Carrey is now facing an additional wrongful death lawsuit from White's mother Brigid Sweetman. She and Burton are both claiming that Carrey provided White with the pills she overdosed on, additionally alleging that he also gave her sexually transmitted diseases.

Carrey's lawyer Raymond Boucher attempted to have the case thrown out, but Judge Deirdre Hill denied the motion. "Mr. Carrey loved Ms. White dearly and so obviously it will be a very painful process for him," Boucher reportedly said.

White was a makeup artist who met Carrey while the two were working on a film together in 2012. They dated on and off for a few years, though Burton and Sweetman claim they broke up the day before White took her own life.

A trial is expected to start on April 26, 2018.
