'Jeopardy!' Host Alex Trebek Says He's Undergoing Chemotherapy Again

BY Sarah MurphyPublished Sep 17, 2019

Jeopardy! host Alex Trebek revealed this morning on Good Morning America that he is undergoing chemotherapy once again.

Earlier this year, Trebek announced he had been diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer, but after his first round of chemotherapy, the host said he was "near remission."

This morning, however, he told GMA that after stopping chemotherapy and beginning immunotherapy, "My numbers went sky high, much higher than they were when I was first diagnosed."

As such, doctors recommended another round of chemo, which Trebek is currently completing.

Trebek also opened up about the waves of depression that came with the diagnosis, but he remains optimistic and devoted to Jeopardy!

"I realize that there is an end in sight for me, just as there is for everyone else," he said. "One line that I have used with our staff in recent weeks and months is that when I do pass on, one thing they will not say at my funeral is, 'Oh, he was taken from us too soon.'"

"Hey guys. I'm 79 years old. I've had one hell of a good life. And I've enjoyed it … the thought of passing on doesn't frighten me, it doesn't," he continued. "Other things do, the affect it will have on my loved ones, that bothers me, it makes me sad. But the thought of myself moving on, hey folks, it comes with the territory."

Despite the pain and fatigue that comes with cancer, Trebek is still dedicated to keeping his day job.

"As long as I can walk out and greet the audience and the contestants and run the game I'm happy," he said.
