We've known that Jennifer Hudson was set to portray Aretha Franklin in a biopic for a long time, having shared the teaser trailer way back in the simpler times of 2019. Now, however, Respect has been delayed by seven months.

The film was directed by Liesl Tommy and chronicles Franklin's career. It also stars Forest Whitaker, Marlon Wayans, Audra McDonald, Marc Maron, Tituss Burgess and Mary J. Blige.

The film had been scheduled for wide release on January 15 after opening on Christmas Day, but it will now come out on August 13, 2021.
