Jane Fonda Took a Break from Getting Arrested This Week, but Lily Tomlin Took Her Place

Jane Fonda's favourite hobby appears to be getting herself arrested as part of her weekly "Fire Drill Fridays" protest. This week, however, she passed the torch onto her Grace & Frankie costar Lily Tomlin to get arrested instead.

As Deadline reports, demonstrators shouted "Lily! Lily!" as Tomlin and over a dozen other protestors occupied the steps of the Capitol. This was the 12th straight week of protests led by Fonda, leading for her to be arrested a total of five times.

This week was Tomlin's turn. Prior to her arrest, she told the crowd, "We have got to stop hugging and start saving the trees."

She went on to criticize the corporation BlackRock, which has invested in firms that do deforestation and immigration detention camps.

"These corporations are making oodles of money on the front end, oodles of money on the back end," she said. "It is beyond reprehensible."

Fonda will lead the weekly protests every Friday until mid-January, when her and Tomlin will go back into production on their Netflix series Grace & Frankie.
