Having previously collaborated on Enemy and Prisoners, Jake Gyllenhaal and director Denis Villeneuve will once again join forces for a new HBO limited series.

The show is called The Son, and it's an adaptation of Jo Nesbø's's novel of the same name. It follows the story of Sonny Lofthus, an escaped convict and opioid addict who can't recall his past as he's on the run from the law.

According to Deadline, Gyllenhaal had apparently been searching for years to find a solid next collaboration with Villeneuve after Prisoners. He sent the director a copy of the book, and the next day Villeneuve agreed to the project.

This should keep Villeneuve busy after his highly-anticipated Dune remake was delayed until October 2021
