Jack Black has taken some iconic characters from game to screen over the years, and he's got another on the way.

The actor behind The Super Mario Bros. Movie's Bowser and Claptrap in the upcoming Borderlands adaptation has officially been tapped for the Minecraft movie, in which he's rumoured to be playing the game's protagonist, Steve.

Deadline reported yesterday that Black is confirmed to be starring in the live-action adaptation of Mojang's hugely popular first-person survival game, and claimed that they've been told he's portraying Steve, although they didn't reveal their source.

While the plot, release date and further casting details are still being kept under wraps, we do know that the adaptation will also star Jason Momoa in an unknown role.

Meanwhile, as we await further news regarding the Minecraft movie, Black will be busy with the upcoming release of Kung Fu Panda 4, due to hit theatres in March.
