Stephen King has now been dragged into Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling's never-ending debate about trans identities, after he publicly showed support for trans women over the weekend.
It all began when King retweeted Rowling, who quoted Andrea Dworkin in thread, writing, "Men often react to women's words — speaking and writing — as if they were acts of violence; sometimes men react to women's words with violence."
After noticing her fellow author's retweet, Rowling responded: "I've always revered Stephen King, but today my love reached — maybe not Annie Wilkes levels — but new heights. It's so much easier for men to ignore women's concerns, or to belittle them, but I won't ever forget the men who stood up when they didn't need to. Thank you, Stephen."
When fans noticed King's interaction with his controversial counterpart, they asked him to clarify his stance on trans identities, to which King responded: "Trans women are women."
In response, Rowling then deleted her support for King — as documented by Twitter user @notallbhas — within just minutes.
However, this shouldn't come as too much of a surprise considering the content of a lengthy essay she published recently that attempts to defend her controversial stance on transgender and nonbinary identities.
King is only the latest of entertainment figures to speak out against Rowling's transphobia. In the last month alone, Daniel Radcliffe, Eddie Redmayne and Emma Watson, among many others, have also condemned the author's problematic views.
