It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia has been officially renewed for Season 15 — a milestone that marks a record-breaking moment for the series. Once the season airs on FX, the Gang will become part of the longest-running live-action comedy series in television history.
The new season is set to debut on FXX sometime in 2021, the network confirmed today. Its 15th instalment will beat out the record-holding series The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet, which aired on ABC back in the '50s and '60s.
"I think 15 is the record for a comedy, so I imagine we'll all want to hold the record for the longest-running comedy in America," series star Charlie Day told The Wrap back 2018. "Fifteen would be the record for the longest live-action comedy, so we'll probably try and break that record if we can."
As previously reported, It's Always Sunny creator/star Rob McElhenney has already begun working on new material for Season 15 and recently announced plans to address the coronavirus pandemic in one of their upcoming episodes. McElhenney made the announcement while promoting his newly released quarantine episode of his Mythic Quest series, which airs on Apple+.
Season 14 of Always Sunny aired last September. The series premiered back in 2005 and has accumulated 154 episodes in its run.
